PulpEye is supplying quality control equipment to SCA's new chemi-thermomechanical pulp mill in Ortviken, Sweden; order includes two DotEye analyzers, three existing PulpEye analyzer upgrades, and CrillEye module rental to measure crill in pulp suspension

ORTVIKEN, Sweden , January 31, 2022 (press release) –

As a part of SCA’s investment in a new CTMP mill in Ortviken in Sweden, PulpEye has received an order comprising two DotEye analysers, upgrading of three existing PulpEye analyser equipment and renting of a CrillEye module.

SCA decided in 2020 to revamp its Ortviken paper mill to a state-of-the art facility producing CTMP market pulp with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes. Already in 2006 SCA bought three PulpEye online pulp quality analysers with modules analysing fibre, freeness and shives for the paper mill’s TMP plant. These modules will now be upgraded to the latest technology. In addition, two DotEye analysers will be installed to make sure that the pulp products are as clean as possible.

The CrillEye technology, once developed by STFI in Sweden and now produced and sold by PulpEye, has proven to be a useful module when measuring the amount of crill in a pulp suspension. Crill has a great influence on paper and board strength properties as well as on bulk. As a part of the agreement SCA will therefore rent a CrillEye module to evaluate its potential for the coming Ortviken CTMP mill.

“SCA Ortviken has for more than fifteen years relied on PulpEye analysers for their TMP production,” says Öjvind Sundvall, MD at PulpEye. “In order to be efficient and deliver top quality pulp products, it is important to have a robust and fast 24/7 online quality control. The upgraded PulpEyes, complemented with two DotEye analysers, will give the new CTMP plant a pulp quality control second to none.”

“We are very grateful to SCA for showing us and our quality control equipment a continued confidence and we look forward to participating in this project. It is worth mentioning that all Scandinavian CTMP market pulp producers but one use PulpEye online pulp quality control equipment, and the new CTMP mill in Ortviken will be no exception,” Öjvind Sundvall finishes.

As a part of the PulpEye delivery two DotEye analysers will be installed at SCA Ortviken CTMP mill.
