Norske Skog has partnered with the Norwegian NGO Miljøstiftelsen ZERO – Zero Emission Resource Organisation.
One of the areas covered by the agreement is bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), where CO2 from a biogenic source is captured and permanently stored, resulting in a net reduction of CO2 levels in the atmosphere.
"In order to reach the climate goals, it is no longer enough to cut emissions. We also need to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Capturing biogenic CO2 emissions from sources such as Norske Skog's factories can play an important role in this effort, and we look forward to cooperating with Norske Skog on establishing a BECCS framework and other topics related to climate policy," says Sigrun Aasland, Managing Director of Miljøstiftelsen ZERO.
"Over the past years, we have substantially reduced our CO2 emissions, but we still want to do more. We look forward to working with Zero on policies to encourage large-scale and efficient projects to reduce industrial emissions," says Carsten Dybevig, Vice President Communication and Public Affairs at Norske Skog.
