Solution eliminates plastic film and reinforces the journey to reduce fossil sources in the packaging chain

Largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and leader in the corrugated cardboard packaging and industrial bags markets in Brazil, Klabin takes another important step in its business strategy by announcing EkoFlex, its first paper for flexible packaging. The solution is intended for several segments, such as food, hygiene and cleaning, pharmaceutical, and has a high rate of reduction in the use of plastic in the consumption chain.

EkoFlex is produced from long fibers (pine), resulting in an extensible paper with a lower weight, which has better performance and greater resistance, being able to meet different market segments and having flexible packaging among its main applications. Pillow bag, Flow pack, stand up pouch and box pouches. Available in white, kraft and deligned versions, the solution brings the great differential of sealability that allows the coils to be compatible with the conversion and filling machines already on the market (FFS: Form-Fill-Seal), eliminating the need for new investments in equipment.

André Badaró, Klabin's New Products manager, explains that the product addresses an important and growing demand from society for more sustainable solutions. “Big brands have followed social demands by increasing the use of renewable and recyclable solutions, making commitments to reduce fossil sources. EkoFlex represents another step in this direction, being an alternative for packaging that requires flexibility and strength, while maintaining relevant sustainability attributes that are inherent to paper,” he says.

EkoFlex is produced from Klabin paper, with raw material of renewable origin, coming from planted and certified forests, it is a repulpable, recyclable solution and is certified for contact with food. The product is already available for sale in the Brazilian market and for export.
