The European Union has again expanded sanctions against Russia in response to the country's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. In its fifth sanction package, published April 8, the EU banned imports from Russia of wood pulp from both mechanical and chemical pulping processes, including Chemi-ThermoMechanical Pulp or CTMP, some grades of kraft paper, including uncoated kraft paper and paperboard, along with wood and wood products. The ban took effect on April 9, though there are exceptions for existing contracts, which will have a transition period until July 10.
