May 8, 2023 (press release) –

The Ence Navia biofactory will begin its annual technical shutdown this coming Monday, May 8, which will last until May 20.

During this shutdown, an ambitious work plan will be carried out to incorporate new technologies and improve existing ones, in order to continue reinforcing their efficiency, reliability and environmental excellence. In addition, as usual, together with the tasks aimed at maintaining the biofactory, technical interruption will be used to reinforce its efficiency and sustainability.

Throughout this shutdown, and in order to carry out proper maintenance of the facilities and implement the planned improvements, more than 19 million euros will be invested in the Asturian plant. Of the total, more than 1.2 million euros will be allocated to reinforce the environmental excellence of the biofactory, especially in the areas of decarbonisation and reduction of water consumption.

In this sense, it should be remembered that this facility has been recognized with the “Nordic Swan” ecological label, in addition to the Aenor “Zero Waste” certificate; and its pulp has received the EU Ecolabel label. Likewise, its biomass has been accredited under the “SURE” scheme, which ensures its sustainability.

The safety and health of all people related to Ence’s activity represent a priority for the company. For this reason, compliance with all safety measures within the biofactory will be strictly supervised, in which more than 1,500 additional workers will operate during this shutdown in addition to the regular employees of the plant.

For Ence, the technical shutdown of its biofactories is a key moment because several of the fundamental axes of its management model materialize during it: environmental and safety excellence, the continuous improvement of its results and facilities and the social commitment to the around.
