People invovled in Italy's cartonboard market have mixed feelings about how the market fared in May. Some market players think cartonboard is still scarce and that securing adequate supply is still taking priority over prices. There is some concern in the market about the temporary shutdown at a GD board mill in France being extended until year-end and about production curtailments at a few Nordic GC board mills. Others, however, have seen demand slow and availability improve for all cartonboard grades over the past few weeks, with no evidence of a run on volumes and less willingness to pay any price set by manufacturers. In some instances, customers were calling for price reductions for volumes delivered in June at the latest. The primary source for this article is Euwid, Gernsbach, Germany, published May 31, 2022.
