NEW YORK , July 17, 2014 (press release) – It is our pleasure to inform you that Mr. Manoel Sobral Filho has been appointed by the Secretary-General as the Director of the UN Forum of Forests Secretariat. Mr Sobral's appointment will take effect on 1 September 2014.

He brings with him extensive experience on global forest issues, previously serving as the Director of Brazil's Forest Product Research Center at the National Institute of Amazonian Research, to serving two terms as Executive Director of the International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO). He has a demonstrated commitment to sustainable forest management, partnerships, capacity building and stakeholder engagement. His expertise will truly be an asset to the Secretariat at this critical juncture in the review of the International Arrangement on Forests (IAF).
