LOS ANGELES , July 15, 2014 () – Recycled containerboard price hikes have been announced to start Aug. 1 in Germany, where producers hope the market’s current strength will assure the increases stick, reported Euwid on July 15.

The announcements have been met with skepticism by some market observers, who say the market is not as firm as it appears to be. Summer is not usually a good time to try to raise prices.

However, markets are being buoyed currently by reduced supply resulting from mill shutdowns to perform annual maintenance. There have been some delays in deliveries, as well, Euwid reported.

German producers of recycled containerboard hope to recoup some of the revenue lost as containerboard prices eroded in recent months. Last summer’s attempt to raise prices was unsuccessful.

Hamburger Containerboard in Germany is known to be one of the producers that have announced a recycled containerboard price hike to take effect as of Aug. 1, according to media reports.

The company, a division of Austrian Prinzhorn Group, plans to raise the price of its brown containerboard by €70 (US$95) per tonne, while the price for its white grade will go up by €50/tonne.
