Lempert Report Innovation Series of videos highlights Tetra Pak packaging for The Original Soupman; cartons allow soups to retain color, texture, natural taste and nutritional value without preservatives or refrigeration, help eliminate waste
SANTA MONICA, California

– Consumers want clean foods in environmentally friendly packaging and The Original Soupman is a leader in this space, according to this week's segment of The Lempert Report Innovation Series, a weekly video series featuring innovation in the food world. Sponsored by Tetra Pak, The Lempert Report Innovation Series videos are found online at The Lempert Report's Youtube Channel and on Tetra Pak's consumer Web site BeCartonSmart.com.
In 1984, The Original Soupman opened its doors at 55th Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan and quickly became a worldwide destination. With increased awareness from Seinfeld and celebrity equity partners including Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Jackson and Jason Alexander, millions of visitors came to the store to try the innovative soups, but they were not available in grocery stores because they couldn't emulate the recipes to work in a can or frozen aisle.
"The Original Soupman soups were only sold out of their restaurant because packaging wasn't available to keep the soups fresh," says Phil Lempert, CEO and editor of The Lempert Report. "But working with Tetra Pak, they've created a shelf stable product available at retailers which changed their business and also the soup aisle."
Tetra Pak cartons allow soups to retain color, texture, natural taste and nutritional value without the need for preservatives or refrigeration. For consumers, it's easy to store in the pantry and the re-closable carton package helps eliminate waste.
The Lempert Report Innovation Series is available online for consumers, food industry insiders and also as a ready-to-air segment for newsrooms.
