AUGSBURG, Germany , June 24, 2014 (press release) – WEISS Druck in Monschau invests in InlineCutoff Control dynamic from manroland web systems

manroland web systems offers a wide product range for Service upgrade solutions that help the customer reduce costs and improve quality. As the only press manufacturer in the market, manroland develops in-house ClosedLoop systems that enable fully integrated operation with user confidence.

Reducing waste rates due to highly dynamic cut-off register control
High speed delivery at short lead times is just one trend of modern commercial printing. Smaller runs, aligned with special target groups, additionally have to to meet high quality demands. Thus besides short makeready times, publishing houses more and more require higher quality standards for color and register – both for hardcover and for the paperback market. Furthermore, this also means reduced waste rates for the printer, what helps achieving an ideal cost-per-copy for the production.

WEISS Druck in Monschau faced these demands and decided to invest in a highly dynamic cut-off register control from manroland web systems. The system will be installed at a LITHOMAN press.

WEISS Druck is the parent of a company group with today more than 30 subcompanies. 1,200 employees all over Germany realize all customer demands related to print, printed products and media services. With eight commercial printing presses, eight newspaper presses, sheetfed- and digital printing presses, WEISS shows manifold production possibilities.

InlineCutoff Control dynamic is the fastest cut-off control system available on the market. This is assured by an additional camera, measuring and controlling the web close to the knife cylinder. Due to the highly dynamic folding drive system, each measuring can be controlled and readjusted for providing an accurate cut-off. Ideally it is possible to save up to 50% cut-off waste with one reel change or one blanket washing. Additionally, for the start-up and the production, a more steady position of the cut-off with fewer tolerances can be generated. The result is an earlier achievement of saleable copies after disturbances like accelerating, blanket washing or reel change, compared to a conventional cut-off compensation with mechanical register.

ROI after one year
“The greatest benefits are the savings due to reduced waste rates. These could be reduced by approximately 70,000 Euro per year. Thanks to these cost savings, the investment showed a return within just one year. For this reason, we have already ordered another InlineCutoff Control dynamic for another LITHOMAN press”, Thomas Horst, Operations Manager at WEISS Druck explains.
