– Finnish packaging designer Packdesign ID Oy has created a senior-friendly, easy-opening lunchmeat package for Atria Plc, a Finnish food company with segments in Nordic countries, Russia and the Baltic region, Packaging World reported on June 8.
The amorphous polyethylene terephthalate/polyethylene (APET/PE) container features grip tabs on the top and bottom for consumers with low strength and dexterity. The packaging is also resealable to maintain freshness.
Packdesign notes that lunch meats and other foods often come in packages that are difficult for anyone to open, creating a market opportunity for the new easy-open containers.
Atria officials did not disclose the specifics of the modified atmosphere thermoforming and sealing system used to produce the packaging.
The containers also feature a rounded shape and labels with bright graphics to distinguish the brand on shelves.
