Switzerland-based Hoffmann Neopac reducing CO2 emissions by 720 tonnes/year through partnership with Heizwerk Oberdiessbach heating plant; heat is produced using renewable energy from surrounding forests and waste wood

– Neopac has recently formed a partnership with the Heizwerk Oberdiessbach heating plant (HEWO). Heat is produced using renewable energy from the surrounding forests and waste wood. Through its connection to HEWO, Neopac is reducing its CO² emissions considerably and making a significant contribution to sustainable climate protection.
Since Switzerland failed to meet its target for CO² emissions, there has been a vast increase in CO² tax on furnace oil. For Neopac that was the right time to consider alternatives and to move to ecological district heating. The supplier for this green energy is Heizwerk Oberdiessbach, a district heating network which works, in a way, like a large central heating system. The various individual heating plants have been replaced by one single plant; a system which saves an enormous amount of energy, as well as reduces transportation and service costs.
After two years of intensive planning and installation work, HEWO is now heating all of Neopac’s buildings, as well as its water. This is reducing Neopac’s CO2 emissions by a remarkable 720 tonnes a year. Head of Infrastructure, Andreas Bigler, says of the project: “This partnership did not incur any costs for Neopac and has enabled us to contribute to sustainable environmental protection.”
