The company, which earlier planned to build the project worth $1.7 billion offsore, now intends to build it on the former Woodfibre pulp mill site along the shores of Howe Sound,
According to Woodfibre, natural gas storage for the facility would remain offshore.
Some of the factors that made the company to change its original proposal to build the project off the coast include its possible impacts on marine life and noise.
Upon completion of the project, about 2.1 million tonnes of LNG would be shipped from the Squamish facility beginning as early as 2017.
The project is currently undergoing a blended federal-provincial environmental review. If it receives certification, Pacific Oil and Gas would take final decision on the project in the first half of 2015.
