Spanish antitrust agency CNMC broadens investigation of corrugated board industry's alleged price-fixing, now alleging involvement by 22 companies sharing inside information to monopolize the sector

La Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC), a Spanish antitrust agency, is further investigating a suspected cartel-building conspiracy by members of the Spanish corrugated board industry, Euwid reported on June 16.
The CNMC now alleges involvement by 22 companies, including the Madrid-based Assn. of Spanish Manufacturers of Corrugated Cardboard (AFCO), of collaborating to monopolize the sector among themselves, illegally sharing inside information and fixing prices.
The agency began its investigation with 12 suspected companies, including Smurfit Kappa Group, SA Industrias Celulosa Aragonesa CIF (Saica) and Papeles y Cartones de Europa SA (Europac), over possible anti-competitive practices, Industry Intelligence first reported on May 15, 2013.
