UPS promotes 24-year company veteran Nando Cesarone to president of UPS Asia Pacific, responsible for more than 40 countries, territories throughout Asia, replacing Brendan Canavan, who is returning to US to become president of UPS Airlines

SINGAPORE , June 13, 2014 (press release) – Canavan to Lead UPS Airlines

UPS (NYSE: UPS) has promoted Nando Cesarone, a 24-year UPS veteran, to president of UPS Asia Pacific. As the head of one of the fastest growing regions of the world, Cesarone will have responsibility for more than 40 countries and territories throughout Asia.

Cesarone, a native of Toronto, Canada, is replacing Brendan Canavan, who will be returning to the United States to take on the role of president of UPS Airlines.

Since 2013, Cesarone has served as president of UPS's South Asia District, based in Singapore. Under his leadership, UPS has expanded the company's network and portfolio of solutions offered to customers as the company increases its presence in Asia. Prior roles at UPS include president of the North-East Europe District in 2012 and various positions in operations and engineering in Europe and Canada. Like many UPS executives who have joined the company and were promoted from within, Cesarone joined UPS in 1990 as a package loader while attending college. He progressed through several operations positions of increasing responsibility while at UPS locations in Canada. Cesarone also gained international experience in Europe from 2007-2009. He received an MBA from Heriot Watt University – Edinburgh School of Business.

"Nando has proven to be extraordinarily effective at serving customers and building UPS's presence," said Jim Barber, president of UPS International. "He also inspires employees to take the extra step and go further whether we are moving shipments across the globe or volunteering in the community."

"I want to thank Brendan for his leadership for the past two years and know he'll continue to drive innovation and customer service as head of UPS Airlines, one of the world's largest airlines," Barber added.

Canavan, a 33-year UPS veteran and native of Philadelphia, United States, took on the role of Asia Pacific region president in 2012 following various operational and marketing assignments in New York, Chicago and Louisville, Kentucky, where he managed Worldport, UPS's cutting-edge global air hub. Prior to coming to Asia, Canavan served as North-East Europe District Manager from 2007. In the past two years, he has been instrumental in growing the Asia Pacific region, including driving a strong China strategy, developing healthcare and other vertical capabilities and establishing wholly-owned operations in Vietnam.
