INDIANAPOLIS , June 11, 2014 (press release) – Polar Beverages, the country’s largest independent soft-drink bottler, is in the process of upgrading all their carbonated beverage lines to adopt Closure Systems International’s (CSI’s) lightweight Omni mini XP 28mm linerless closures. Omni mini XP bottle caps deliver superior application and product performance for sparkling beverages while reducing total cost of operations and enhancing environmental sustainability.

Following one of the conversions, Chris Crowley, Polar Executive VP and Operations Manager, was extremely pleased by the results. Crowley said, “Polar is a family-owned business with traditions dating back to 1880. We only make process changes when the quality and integrity of our products are enhanced and our customers or the communities in which we live directly benefit. Converting to CSI’s Omni mini XP closures helped achieve all those goals.”

Omni mini XP is precision-engineered to enhance capping application performance, resulting in lower defect rates and higher productivity for bottlers. The Omni mini XP design reduces misapplied caps, reduces color dimensional variability and easily accommodates bottling line speed changes. The result is more efficient bottling and lower operational costs.

CSI’s new Omni mini XP closure is an ultra lightweight, one-piece 28mm design, compatible with the 1881 bottle finish. Weighing less than two grams, this closure not only delivers best-in-class capping application performance, but also unparalleled product performance. Omni mini XP’s robust seal design ensures industry-leading CO2 performance across the widest range of conditions, protecting the integrity of the brand and delighting consumers. In addition to providing advanced performance for beverage customers and consumers, the new closure is made using fully recyclable polyethylene resin, delivers maximum source reduction and a reduced carbon footprint.

Polar’s Sam Bowden and Judy Knowlton led the conversion project, beginning with the installation of upgrades to Polar’s capping equipment and then closely monitoring line-trial testing. “In a word, the XP production start-up was flawless,” said Bowden. “Polar’s strict quality standards combined with the expert technical support provided by CSI have made the conversion first-rate. As proof, our XP bottling lines ran virtually defect-free, beginning on day one. We could not be more pleased.”
