Austria-owned Klausner Lumber Two nearing completion of site preparation phase of US$110M sawmill project near Enfield, North Carolina, says county official; work on 125-acre site was delayed by persistently bad winter weather

LOS ANGELES , June 11, 2014 (Industry Intelligence Inc.) – Preparation of Austria-owned Klausner Lumber Two LLC's 125-acre site near Enfield, North Carolina, is nearing completion after weather-related delays, according to a report by the The Daily Herald.

Cathy Scott, executive director of the Halifax County Economic Development Commission, said the contractor for this phase of the work, Haymes Brothers Construction, were a couple of weeks away from finishing. The work, which includes access road and drainage improvements, was delayed by persistently bad winter weather, Scott said, adding that construction work would begin on the sawmill once the site work was completed.

The cost of the project was estimated at US$110 million when it was announced in Dec. 2012. The sawmill is initially expected to employ a workforce of around 350.

Support for the project includes eligibility for up to $3.91 million from the state’s Job Development Investment Grant Program, and up to $750,000 from the One North Carolina Fund.

Klausner also is constructing plants near Rowesville, South Carolina, and Live Oak, Florida.
