FORT WORTH, Texas , June 6, 2014 (press release) – PulteGroup’s Built to Honor Program Joins Forces with Local Contractors To Surprise Veteran with New Mortgage-Free Home

Corporal John Hootsell and his wife Brandie were surprised Thursday with the announcement that they will soon be the recipients of a new mortgage-free Centex home in Fort Worth. A crowd of local contractors, neighbors and others cheered as Centex officials shared the good news with the family as they stood on their future home site at Trails of Fossil Creek. The home is part of PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program which provides mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans.

The new home is expected to be completed in the fall and will be the second home Centex has donated to a worthy veteran in Fort Worth, said Bryan Swindell, the company’s Dallas/Fort Worth division president. PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program has a goal of building and donating more than 20 homes to injured veterans across the nation in 2014.

“Corporal Hootsell has served our country with pride and we hope this new home will help ease his transition back home and provide his family many future happy memories,” Swindell said. “We want to recognize the generosity of all the contractors who are supporting this effort through their donation of labor and materials. It is only through their support that Built to Honor can assist the men and women who have bravely defended our country.”

The new Centex home will be built in collaboration with Operation FINALLY HOME, an organization focused on helping veterans and their families transition to the home front by addressing one of their most pressing needs – a home to call their own.

"Operation FINALLY HOME is truly honored to be working with PulteGroup in changing the lives of the Hootsell family,” said retired Sgt. Daniel Vargas, vice president of family matters and community outreach. “John’s commitment to our country and his service-before-self attitude is why we are working so hard with PulteGroup to get these young men/women FINALLY HOME.”

Centex will work in the coming months with Corporal Hootsell and Brandie to put some custom touches on the 2,146-square-foot home, which will feature three bedrooms and two baths.

Corporal John Hootsell was deployed to Afghanistan in April 2012 and involved in four IED blasts including one in September of that year that severely injured him. While on a mission to secure a village that was a known terrorist stronghold, Hootsell’s convoy came under attack. While he was providing cover with his armored vehicle for two other vehicles involved, Hootsell’s vehicle was hit. His heroic actions saved many Marine lives. He has been awarded the Purple Heart and numerous other service awards.
