LOS ANGELES , May 28, 2014 () – Canfor Pulp LP has announced that its June list prices of northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp in North America and Europe will be unchanged. It has not yet announced its June price plans for Asia.

And Resolute Forest Products Inc. has verbally informed North American customers its paper-pulp prices will be unchanged in June, according to a knowledgeable source.

Canfor Pulp announced May 27 that its June NBSK list prices will remain at US$1,030/tonne in North America and $940/tonne in Europe, the company confirmed.

The North American NBSK market has been at $1,030/tonne since March.

For Europe, Canfor Pulp announced a $940/tonne NBSK price effective Dec. 1. It has continued to describe that as its list price, although the market itself has not gotten higher than $925/tonne, which was achieved in March and has held through May.

Resolute’s most recent formal virgin paper-pulp price announcement for North America was for March 1, when it said its new prices would be $1,030/tonne for NBSK, $990/tonne for southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK), both up $20/tonne, and $880/tonne for northern bleached hardwood kraft (NBHK) and for southern bleached hardwood kraft (SBHK), both up $10/tonne.

Capacities. Canfor Pulp, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, has three mills in Prince George, British Columbia. Two mills produce NBSK exclusively, including 590,000 tonnes/year at the Northwood mill and 320,000 tonnes/year at the Intercontinental mill. The third mill, the Prince George mill, produces 120,000 tonnes/year of unbleached kraft pulp (UKP), 15,000 tonnes/year of semi-bleached pulp and 135,000 tonnes/year of kraft paper.

Montréal-based Resolute produces approximately 1.7 million tonnes/year of market pulp at its eight facilities in North America. It is one of only a few North American producers of all four major paper-grade pulps: NBSK, SBSK, NBHK, and SBHK. Also it produces recycled kraft pulp (RKP). It produces fluff pulp in Coosa Pines, Alabama.
