United States Patent no. 8,734,414, issued on May 27, was assigned to Kimberly-Clark Worldwide Inc. (Neenah, Wis.).
"Pull-activated tampon applicator" was invented by Paula Cardinahl Winkel (Chilton, Wis.), Adrienne Rae Loyd (Neenah, Wis.), Sarah Jane Marie Freiburger (Hortonville, Wis.), Allan James Krueger (Winneconne, Wis.), Betsy Charlotte Fields (San Francisco), Vivian Kate Barad (San Francisco), Judy May Lee (San Francisco), Rebecca Jeanine Sinclair (Palo Alto, Calif.), Adam Patrick Vollmer (San Francisco), Dennis J. Boyle (Palo Alto, Calif.), Lukas Martin Scherrer (San Francisco), Garry Roland Woltman (Appleton, Wis.), Jonathan Kyle Arendt (Larsen, Wis.), Marcus David Weiher (Sherwood, Wis.), Pamela Mary Thompson (Greenville, Wis.) and Angela Ann Johnston (New London, Wis.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A pull-activated applicator includes a barrel, a pledget, a finger grip, and a deployment element. The pledget includes a withdrawal string and is located within the barrel. The barrel, the pledget, and the deployment element are configured such that application of a force to the deployment element in a first direction deploys the pledget and withdrawal string from the barrel in a second direction generally opposite the first direction."
The patent was filed on Oct. 29, 2010, under Application No. 12/915,224.
