Shin-Etsu Chemical's Shintech planning 1 billion lbs./year ethylene feedstock plant, is considering sites in Louisiana and Texas; company to add PVC, VCM and caustic soda capacity in Louisiana by 2015 as part of US$500M expansion project

DETROIT , May 26, 2014 () – An air permit has been filed by Shintech Inc with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for the construction of its new 1 bn pounds/y ethylene unit. The company is considering sites in Plaquemine and Addis, LA, as well as in Alvin, TX for setting up the new plant. Shintech is a unit of Japan-based Shin-Etsu Chemical Co Ltd. As part of its $500 M expansion project, it will also add around 700 M pounds of PVC capacity, about 700 M pounds of vinyl chloride monomer capacity, and 440 M pounds of caustic soda capacity in Louisiana by 2015.
