Nescafe has taken two morning staples, alarm clocks and coffee, and combined them into packaging that encourages users to wake up. The Alarm Cap, a 3-D-printed coffee jar lid, has an LED interface on its underside and comes with seven different alarm tones that are synchronized with small pulsing lights. The coffee brand hopes that users will be prompted to pour themselves a cup of coffee after turning the alarm off, which can only be done so by twisting the lid and removing it from the container. The exterior pieces were printed in nylon by 3D printing specialist Shapeways.

Plastic ‘pizza box’ doubles as to-go container and cookware



For those who’d rather eat their leftover pizza warm than cold, Faerch Plast’s plastic “pizza box” concept serves as both a to-go container and a piece of cookware to heat up pizza for the next day. The packaging, which actually has a cylindrical shape, consists of a base made of crystalline polyethylene terephthalate (CPET) for use in ovens or microwaves. The container’s clear lid is made of amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET) and is used to transport cooked pizzas from the grocery store or pizzeria to the home for immediate consumption. Uncooked pizzas can also be prepared and packed for cooking later by the consumer.

Bowling pin-shaped beverage packaging offers second life as toy



A Moscow-based designer’s bowling pin-shaped packaging for beverage six-packs could be a hit, or rather, a strike. Called Ford Jekson, the packaging comprises bottles that resemble bowling pins that could actually be used for the game before or after the beverages have been consumed. The outer layer of the bottles consists of a smooth wooden material and the top of the bottle can be twisted off to reveal a bottleneck and cap in a variety of colors. And no bowling set is complete without a bowling ball, which is also included with the packaging in a miniature size. The packaging concept can be further explored and tested with other materials like aluminum or bioplastic, according to PSFK.
