ADM building sweetener and soluble fiber manufacturing complex in Tianjin, China; sweetener facility expected to be fully operational in early 2015, soluble fiber facility operational in H2 2015

Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) is building a sweetener and soluble-fiber manufacturing complex at the port of Tianjin in North China, on the Yellow Sea.

The facility, approved by the Chinese government authorities, will produce sweeteners and soluble fiber, which is used to add dietary fiber to a wide range of food and beverage products. The complex is ADM’s first wholly owned food-ingredient production facility in China.

“This new complex will position ADM to help meet growing demand in China and Asia for high-quality food ingredients that can serve a wide variety of needs,” said Ismael Roig, ADM vice president and president, Asia-Pacific. “Our Tianjin site’s favorable location near large urban demand centers--along with its proximity to rail and water transportation and ready access to feedstocks--will allow it to be seamlessly integrated into ADM’s global origination and transportation network, thereby enabling us to efficiently serve the needs of our valued customers in China and Asia.”

Construction of the sweetener facility is expected to be fully operational in early 2015, with the soluble fiber facility operational in the second half of 2015.

ADM began operations in China in the mid-1990s, when the company acquired an animal feed premix plant in Dalian, in the country’s northeast.
