HEIDELBERG, Germany , May 16, 2014 (press release) –

  • French label printer Constantia SIM'EDIT installs the press with the 10,000th printing unit
  • Huge configuration range covers specific customer requirements
  • Pole position in the packaging segment
The certificate for the Speedmaster XL 106 fitted with the 10,000th printing unit was recently handed over to French customer Constantia SIM'EDIT at the Wiesloch-Walldorf site of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). The company is a label print shop with nine sites in Europe and North America. Constantia SIM'EDIT is part of the global Constantia Flexibles group, which has more than 50 sites and annual sales in excess of EUR 1.3 billion.

The 10,000th printing unit is part of a Speedmaster XL 106 eight-color press with coating unit, which is to be used predominantly to print paper labels. The Nantes site is already running two Speedmaster XL 106 presses with great success. Furthermore, the company is to install another Speedmaster XL 106 in the near future. Thanks to this machine park, which has been customized to meet its specific needs, Constantia SIM'EDIT can run an industrial production system that is ideally placed to satisfy customer requirements when it comes to quality, productivity, and delivery deadlines.

"The Speedmaster XL 106 is our flagship press and sets new standards in productivity and flexibility," says Stephan Plenz, Member of the Management Board responsible for Heidelberg Equipment. "Sales figures of 10,000 printing units speak for themselves. Depending on the order structure, our customers can produce 80 million sheets or more in one year, on one press, which gives them a real edge on the competition."

Success story for industrial print shops
The Speedmaster XL 105 was launched at drupa 2004 as a new performance class for industrial commercial, label, and packaging printing. Eight years on - at drupa 2012 - it was taken to the next level as the new Speedmaster XL 106. This press has since become a permanent fixture on the market and moved to pole position among long perfecting presses and in packaging printing for folding cartons and labels. The Speedmaster XL 106 stands for ultrafast production speeds, minimum makeready times, optimum printing quality, and thus maximum cost-effectiveness.

What's more, customers value the outstanding flexibility of the press, which has been designed to deliver high material throughput at speeds of up to 18,000 sheets per hour and print the short runs that are typical of web-to-print applications. The press offers the widest configuration range - from two to 17 units - and processes everything from in-mold films at 60 µm to 1 mm-thick card and above.

A customized press is particularly important in the folding carton and label segment, where presses are configured for special applications. The Speedmaster XL 106 scores highly due to its modular concept - as a perfecting press with three coating units, as a rotary die-cutter for in-mold labels, and as a press with a fully automatic material logistics system.
