ERIE, Pennsylvania , May 15, 2014 (press release) – A new blog has launched by a veteran in the returnable packaging industry to help companies get leaner and green. The blog will offer information on container and packaging materials, types of packaging, packaging design and new products.

The blog will be written by Jason Amatangelo, Director of Business Development for Amatech. The goal of the new blog will be to help packaging engineers and logistics managers select and design returnable packaging programs that reduce costs throughout the supply chain. According to Amatangelo, "Returnable packaging systems can reduce overall packaging costs, reduce costly product damage, reduce labor costs and reduce inventory."

Returnable packaging includes reusable boxes, containers, racks and dunnage that move product efficiently and safely through¬out the supply chain. The packaging is constructed of durable materials such as corrugated plastic, foam or metal and is designed to withstand the rough handling of a typical logistics system.

"It is estimated that 30% of landfill waste is created by plastic and paper packaging. The use of cardboard products and other one-time-use packaging products contribute significantly to this waste. Just one returnable package can replace up to 100 cardboard boxes," according to Amatangelo.
