Austria's KLH Massivholz appoints Tilling Timber as Australian distributor of its cross-laminated timber products

LOS ANGELES , May 15, 2014 (Industry Intelligence Inc.) – Austrian manufacturer of cross-laminated timber KLH Massivholz GmbH has appointed Tilling Timber as Australian distributor of its CLT products, known as KLH, according to a report by Infolink.

The use of CLT, originally developed in Austria, has spread throughout Europe over the last 20 years and more recently into parts of North America. The material is gaining recognition in Australia after CLT supplied by KLH was used in the construction of Lend Lease’s Forte Tower in Melbourne, reportedly the tallest timber building of its kind in the world.

According to Tilling, KLH is produced from layers of spruce wood that are arranged crosswise and laminated with a pressing power of 6 N/mm². Tilling notes that the crosswise arrangement of longitudinal and transverse layers reduces swelling and shrinkage in the plane of the panel, and increases static load-carrying capacity and dimensional stability.
