Workers at Schweighofer's viscose pulp mill in Hallein, Austria, stage walkout after contract negotiations break down; trade union seeks 3% wage hike

A strike was called at Schweighofer Fiber GMBH’s viscose pulp mill in Hallein, Austria, after talks stalled over a new labor agreement, reported Salzburg24 on May 13.
Workers walked off the job Tuesday afternoon, following a meeting held that morning to provide an update on the progress of the negotiations.
The trade union and its members are demanding a 3% increase in wages in the new contract, which should apply retroactively to May 1. The mill employs about 250 people.
The mill produces viscose pulp that is used to make textile fibers, as well as in applications in the food and personal care sectors, according to the company’s website.
