Pioneer Hi Bred International issued US patent for 'maize inbred PH1CJ4'

United States Patent no. 8,716,575, issued on May 6, was assigned to Pioneer Hi Bred International Inc (Johnston, Iowa).
"Maize inbred PH1CJ4" was invented by Terry R. Colbert (Dyersburg, Tenn.), William Andrew Wilson (Noblesville, Ind.) and Nancy Guse (Evansville, Ind.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A novel maize variety designated PH1CJ4 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprise crossing maize variety PH1CJ4 with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into PH1CJ4 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. Hybrid maize seed, plant or plant part produced by crossing the variety PH1CJ4 or a locus conversion of PH1CJ4 with another maize variety."
The patent was filed on Feb. 21, 2012, under Application No. 13/400,626.
