CHICAGO , May 6, 2014 (press release) – Total Contract Value in the Florida Regions Surveyed Was $3.5 Billion in the 1st Quarter of 2014. Average Contract Value of $2.3 Million.

For Florida major metro regions, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-11.7%) for new actively bid commercial construction projects, compared to an increase of 15.32% in activity for the same period last year.

Total contract value in the Florida regions surveyed topped out at $3.5 billion in the 1st quarter of 2014, with an average contract value of $2.3 million. This compares to a $4 billion total contract value reported for the 4th quarter of 2013, with an average contract value of $2.7 million.

For the Miami MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-15.9%) for new actively bidding construction projects, compared to a 4.83% increase in activity for the same period last year. Private projects decreased (-6.98%) in the 1st quarter in a year-over-year comparison, compared to a (-8.9%) decrease reports for the 1st quarter of 2013. Public projects decreased (-20.53%) in the 1st quarter 2014, compared to a 13.74% increase reported in the 1st quarter 2013. The total value of construction activity in the Miami MSA region for the 1st quarter 2014 was $1.6 billion.

One notable project actively bidding in the Miami MSA region is Wynwood Central. It is being built at an estimated cost of $100 million. The general contractor is GRYCON, LLC (Miami, FL). The architect is DNB Design Group (Miami, FL). (BidClerk project number 2734890.)

For the Orlando MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a decrease of (-5.03%) in new actively bidding construction projects. Private projects decreased (-2.68%) in the 1st quarter of 2014 in a year-over-year comparison, compared to a (-19.42%) decrease reported in the 1st quarter 2013. Public projects decreased (-6.31%) in the 1st quarter of 2014, compared to an increase of (39.19%) reported in the 1st quarter 2013. The total value of construction activity in the Orlando MSA region for the 1st quarter 2014 was $1.1 billion.

One notable project actively bidding in the Orlando MSA region is the Orange County Convention Center West Building. The architect is HHCP Architects Inc. (Orlando, FL). General Contractor Hensel Phelps (Orlando, FL) was the apparent low bidder at $40 Million. (BidClerk project number 2699223.)

For the Tampa MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a decrease of (-7%) in new actively bidding construction projects. Private projects decreased (-14.66%) in the 1st quarter of 2014 in a year-over-year comparison, compared to a (-8.66%) decreased reported for the 1st quarter of 2013. Public projects decreased (-3.87%) in the 1st quarter 2014, compared to a 45.75% increase reported in the 1st quarter 2013.

One notable project actively bidding in the Tampa MSA region is Valrico Station. It is being built at an estimated cost of $16 million. The general contractor is CORE Construction Services of Florida (Sarasota, FL). The architect is Humphreys & Partners Architects (Maitland, FL), and the developer is WRH Realty Services (St. Petersburg, FL). (BidClerk project number 2607796.)

The areas surveyed for this BCI report are all major-metro regions in Florida, including Jacksonville, FL; Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach, FL; Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, FL; Tallahassee, FL; and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL
