CHICAGO , May 6, 2014 (press release) – Total Contract Value in the Southwest U.S. Regions Surveyed Was $2 Billion in the 1st Quarter of 2014. Average Contract Value Was $2.6 Million.

For major metro regions in the Southwest U.S., 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-8.87%) for new actively bid commercial construction projects, compared to a 2.21% increase in activity for the same period last year.

Total contract value in the Southwest U.S. regions surveyed topped out at $2 billion in the 1st quarter of 2014. Average contract value was $2.6 million.

For the Phoenix MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-12.99%) for new actively bidding construction projects, compared to a (-15.38%) decrease in activity for the same period last year. Private projects decreased (-19.88%) in the 1st quarter in a year-over-year comparison, compared to a (-15.26%) decrease for this same period one year ago. Public projects decreased (-4.79%) in the 1st quarter 2014, compared to a (-16.09%) decrease reported for the same period last year. The total value of construction activity in the Phoenix MSA region for the 1st quarter 2014 was $700 million.

A notable project actively bidding in the Phoenix MSA region is the MET at Fashion Center. It is being built at an estimated cost of $40 million. The developer is HCW Development (Branson, MO) and the architect is Biltform Architecture Group Inc. (Phoenix, AZ). The awarded general contractor is Summit dck, LLC (Phoenix, AZ). For the Las Vegas MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-4.69%) for new actively bidding construction projects, compared to an increase of 12.94% in activity for the same period last year. Private projects decreased (-8.86%) in the 1st quarter in a year-over-year comparison, compared to a (-14.13%) decrease reported for the same period in 2013. Public projects decreased (-0.89%) in the 1st quarter 2014, compared to a 43.59% increase reported for the same period in 2013.

A notable project in the Las Vegas MSA region is the Nevada State College Nursing, Science & Education Building. It is being built at an estimated cost of $22 million. The construction manager is Ledcor Construction Inc. (Henderson, NV). The architect is PGAL Architects (Las Vegas, NV). (BidClerk project number 2717201.)

For the Albuquerque MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year increase of 6.45% for new actively bidding construction projects, compared to a 3.33% increase in activity for the same period last year. While private projects decreased (-27.03%), public projects increased 28.57% in the 1st quarter 2014. The total value of construction activity in the Albuquerque MSA for the 1st quarter 2014 was $300 million.

A notable project actively bidding in the Albuquerque MSA region is the Eagle Vista Apartments. It is being built at an estimated cost of $15.5 million. The major-metro regions surveyed for this BCI report in the Southwest U.S. include Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale, AZ; Prescott, AZ; Tucson, AZ; Yuma, AZ; Las Vegas-Paradise, NV; Reno-Sparks, NV; Albuquerque, NM; and Santa Fe, NM.
