MONTREAL, QUEBEC, Canada, and SARASOTA, Florida , April 29, 2014 (press release) – IPG earns award for protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Intertape Polymer Group (IPG®) (TSX:ITP) as a 2014 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for strategically managing and improving the energy efficiency in its operating locations. Through its partnership with the ENERGY STAR program, IPG has improved its energy performance, saved money, and helped to protect the environment for future generations.

"We are honored to be recognized by the EPA as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year," said Greg Yull, CEO & President, IPG. "I am very proud of our employees for making energy efficiency and sustainability a top priority. By partnering with ENERGY STAR, we were able to save money and protect the environment through employee engagement across the company."

The ENERGY STAR program provides a proven energy management strategy that has helped IPG achieve important reductions in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Key accomplishments of IPG's award winning energy management program include:

Reducing absolute energy use by nearly three percent over 2012. IPG's energy program has reduced energy intensity by 22 percent and saved the company nearly $2 million on energy costs since launching in 2009.
Meeting EPA's ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry for several of its plants, with an average energy intensity reduction of 19 percent. The reductions have cut CO2 emissions at IPG's plants by 26,000 metric tons in two years.
Helping EPA partners with a local utility to pilot a training approach that will help small and medium-sized manufacturers establish effective energy management programs.
Establishing a community energy manager network at one plant location to advance energy efficiency and promote ENERGY STAR tools and resources.
Promoting ENERGY STAR tools and resources actively to local business, organizations, employees, and other stakeholders through presentations and other communication activities.

"ENERGY STAR has been a valuable resource for IPG. The network of ENERGY STAR Industrial Partners has provided a great deal of assistance to help IPG improve its energy program." said Mike Jones, IPG Corporate Energy Manager. "With the help of ENERGY STAR, energy efficiency has become part of our corporate culture. I highly recommend that other organizations that are concerned about energy efficiency and sustainability get involved with ENERGY STAR."

The 2014 Partner of the Year Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency. The award winners are selected from the 16,000 partners that participate in the ENERGY STAR program and will be recognized in Washington, D.C., on April 29, 2014.

Through 2013, with help from ENERGY STAR, American families and businesses have saved $297 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 2.1 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
