P&G issued US patent for 'sanitary napkins capable of taking complex three-dimensional shape in use'

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia , April 22, 2014 () – United States Patent no. 8,702,668, issued on April 22, was assigned to The Procter and Gamble Co. (Cincinnati).

"Sanitary napkins capable of taking complex three-dimensional shape in use" was invented by John Richard Noel (Symmes Township, Ohio).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A catamenial device. The device has a topsheet having a body facing surface, a backsheet joined to said topsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, wherein the absorbent core having three zones differing in stiffness, at least one of the zones including laterally-oriented portions where material from the core has been removed, the portions defining slots."

The patent was filed on June 8, 2012, under Application No. 13/492,192.
