Alaska Senate passes bill that would allow distilleries to offer tours, open gift shops; bill, which passed through House earlier this week, now heads to governor

JUNEAU, Alaska , April 18, 2014 (Associated Press) – Five craft distilleries will be treated like breweries in Alaska, meaning they can offer samples and sell directly to customers.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://is.gd/fhLIof) the change comes after the Legislature approved House Bill 309 from Rep. Chris Tuck, an Anchorage Democrat.

The bill will allow distilleries to offer tours and open gift shops.

Those on tours could get up to 3 ounces of spirits to sample on site. The distilleries can also sell up to a gallon to take with them.

The bill passed the Senate 20-0 on Thursday. The House passed the bill earlier this week.

It now heads to Gov. Sean Parnell for his signature.
