LOS ANGELES , April 17, 2014 () – According to a new study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, U.S. consumers eat about 72 more calories, an increase of about 34%, when cereal is made with smaller flakes, Food Navigator reported April 16.

Consumers will pour two-to-three times more of a compact granola than a large volume cereal, according to the study.
