LONDON , April 9, 2014 (ICIS Chemical Business (CBNB Abstracts)) – Two of four vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) producers in the US have declared force majeure since late Feb 2014, with the latest being LyondellBasell, resulting in an increase in VAM prices by $215/tonne. VAM free on board (FOB) export was assessed at $1500-1700/tonne. In Europe, VAM spot prices increased to over $2300/tonne during the week ended 14 Mar 2014 from an average of $1123/tonne in Jan 2014. In South America, export prices are expected to reach $1750-2000/tonne. A Brazilian buyer is considering switching to styrene acrylics due to the price hike of VAM.
