Food price inflation in Russia at 2.2% in January-February period, compared to 0.3% increase in EU, according to data from Russian government; food prices in Russia up 1.2% in February, compared to 0.1% rise in EU

MOSCOW , March 26, 2014 () – Food price inflation in Russia was 2.2% in January-February, seven times higher than the 0.3% increase in the European Union, Russia's Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.

Food prices in Russia increased 1.2% in February alone compared with an increase of 0.1% in the EU.

The biggest food price increases in Russia in the two months were for fruits and vegetables, up 5.2% and 15.4% respectively, compared with no change and up 1.4% respectively in the EU.

Prices for fish and seafood were up 2.0% (up 1.6% in the EU), butter and fats - up 1.2% (down 0.3%), dairy products, cheese and eggs - up 1.0% (up 0.5%), bakery products and buckwheat as well as sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and candy - up 0.6% (down 0.2%) and meat and meat products - up 0.4% (no change).
