Virginia Dept. of Forestry awards US$108,000 in tree-planting grants to 24 local governments, groups, under US Forest Service's Chesapeake Watershed Forestry Program

RICHMOND, Virginia , March 25, 2014 () – The Virginia Department of Forestry has awarded $108,000 in grants to 24 local governments and citizen groups for tree-planting programs.

The grants for the Virginia Trees for Clean Water Program were provided by the U.S. Forest Service's Chesapeake Watershed Forestry Program. Funding will be matched by the applicants.

The program supports long-term tree canopy cover. The grants are for planting trees near streams and other water sources and in neighborhoods and communities this spring and early fall.
