Potato production in Ukraine expected to rise 10%-15% in 2014 to between 19.8 million and 20.7 million tons, industry official says

, March 11, 2014 () – The Association of Potato Producers expects the increase in the production of potato in 2014 of 10-15% to 19.8-20.7 million tons, Vice President of the Association Mykola Hordiichuk told the Ukrainian News agency.

According to Hordiichuk, the area under potato will be expanded by 5-10%.

He noted that may entail excess of the product in the domestic market and create the necessity for its exportation.

Besides, the Vice President of the Association pointed to the low level of potato processing in Ukraine.

He reminded that the major importers of Ukrainian potato are Moldova, Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, according to Association, the potato production in Ukraine in 2013 made up 17.5-18 million tons, while the export made up 16,300 tons.
