US contract prices for pipe-grade PVC at US$0.65/lb.-US$0.70/lb. in January, general purpose grades at US$0.67/lb.-US$0.72/lb.; most US producers planning US$0.03/lb. price hike for February, March
LONDON , February 28, 2014 (ICIS Chemical Business (CBNB Abstracts) ) – US contract prices for pipe-grade polyvinyl chloride (PVC) settled at 65-70 cents/lb ($1433-$1543/tonne) and general purpose grades at 67-72 cents/lb in Jan 2014. A 3 cents/lb price hike in Feb 2014 and Mar 2014 is planned by most US producers. Aside from high feedstock costs for ethylene, demand continues to be strong while supply becomes limited with Axiall's shutdown of its upstream vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) production. Axiall, Westlake Chemical and Formosa Plastics all announced insufficient stock for exports due to tight market conditions. Axiall will resume the operations of its VCM unit by the end of 1Q 2014.
