Fall potato production in US and Canada falls 3% year-over-year in 2013, USDA says

LOS ANGELES , February 24, 2014 () – According to a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), fall potato production in the U.S. and Canada fell 3% year-over-year in 2013, The Packer reported Feb. 21.

According to the report, about 501 million hundredweight were produced in the two countries last fall. About 398 million hundredweight of potatoes were produced in the U.S. in fall 2013, down 5% from a year ago. Canada produced about 103 million hundredweight, up 2%.
