India expects record wheat crop of 95.6 million tonnes in 2014 amid favorable weather conditions, higher area coverage

– With favourable weather condition and higher area coverage(over315 lakh ha.)the India expects record crop at 95.6 million tonne in 2014.Standing crop is in good to excellent condition so far.Harvesting would start from mid-March.New crop from Gujarat has started hitting the market from mid February and pressure would build up by the end of this month.However market participants see higher crop size around 100 million tonne as area is higher by 19 lakh ha. from previous year.India had harvested 93.51 million tonne last year.
However,temperature in second fortnight of february and March remains crucial for the final size of the crop.There is no threat for wheat crop so far.Spread of yellow rust in some parts of Haryana and Punjab has been contained with early remedial steps by state agriculture departments.
