The Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that the estimate of U.S. retail e-commerce sales for the fourth quarter of 2013, adjusted for seasonal variation, but not for price changes, was $69.2 billion, an increase of 3.4 percent (±1.6%) from the third quarter of 2013. Total retail sales for the fourth quarter of 2013 were estimated at $1,147.7 billion, an increase of 0.6 percent (±0.2%) from the third quarter of 2013. The fourth quarter 2013 e-commerce estimate increased 16.0 percent (±3.7%) from the fourth quarter of 2012 while total retail sales increased 3.8 percent (±1.1%) in the same period. E-commerce sales in the fourth quarter of 2013 accounted for 6.0 percent of total sales.
On a not adjusted basis, the estimate of U.S. retail e-commerce sales for the fourth quarter of 2013 totaled $83.6 billion, an increase of 36.0 percent (±1.6%) from the third quarter of 2013. The fourth quarter 2013 e-commerce estimate increased 16.0 percent (±3.7%) from the fourth quarter of 2012 while total retail sales increased 3.9 percent (±1.1%) in the same period. E-commerce sales in the fourth quarter of 2013 accounted for 7.0 percent of total sales.
Total e-commerce sales for 2013 were estimated at $263.3 billion, an increase of 16.9 percent (±4.9%) from 2012. Total retail sales in 2013 increased 4.2 (±1.6%) percent from 2012. E-commerce sales in 2013 accounted for 5.8 percent of total sales. E-commerce sales in 2012 accounted for 5.2 percent of total sales.
