Altri's Caima Industria de Celulose in Portugal contracts Valmet to supply pulping equipment for rebuild of bleach plant as part of larger rebuild at mill; facility will produce 105,000 tonnes/year of high-quality dissolving pulp following completion

February 17, 2014 (press release) – Valmet will supply pulping equipment to Caima Industria de Celulose S.A. in Portugal for a rebuild of the existing bleach plant. Combining Valmet's experience and know-how of pulp, the new equipment will enable Caima to produce high quality dissolving pulp for the growing global market. Start-up is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015.

The order is included in Valmet's first quarter 2014 orders received. The value of the order is not disclosed.

The bleach plant rebuild is one part of a larger rebuild project at the mill. Valmet's delivery includes the design, supply and erection of the main and auxiliary equipment. The main machinery in the delivery consists of two TwinRoll wash presses. After completion of the project, the mill will be producing 105,000 tons of high quality Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) dissolving pulp per year.

Information about Caima Mill

Caima Mill's fiber line produces 350 tons air dried tons of bleached hardwood sulphite pulp per day out of eucalyptus. Currently the mill is already producing a low alpha dissolving pulp which is delivered to the Chinese market.

Caima celebrated its 125th year of operation in 2013. The company belongs to Altri group, which is a leading Portuguese pulp producer of bleached eucalyptus pulps. Altri's three mills - Celbi, Caima and Celtejo produce over 950,000 tons per year.
