Pioneer Hi Bred International issued US patent for 'maize variety hybrid X8K864'

– United States Patent no. 8,648,235, issued on Feb. 11, was assigned to Pioneer Hi Bred International Inc (Johnston, Iowa).
"Maize variety hybrid X8K864" was invented by Russell L. Fox (Stuart, Iowa), Marjorie A. McIntosh (Princeton, Ill.) and Charles Thomas Cunnyngham (Tipton, Ind.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A novel maize variety designated X8K864 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof, produced by crossing Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. proprietary inbred maize varieties. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprises crossing hybrid maize variety X8K864 with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into X8K864 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. This invention relates to the maize variety X8K864, the seed, the plant produced from the seed, and variants, mutants, and minor modifications of maize variety X8K864. This invention further relates to methods for producing maize varieties derived from maize variety X8K864."
The patent was filed on June 8, 2010, under Application No. 12/795,761.
