Russia exported 1.2 million tonnes of grain in January, compared to 2.4 million tonnes in December, 435,000 tonnes in year-ago period, according to government statistics

MOSCOW , February 11, 2014 (Interfax Information Services) – Russia exported 1.15 million tonnes of grain last month, less than half as much as it did - 2.43 million tonnes - in December, Agriculture Ministry materials examined by Interfax say.

Exports weighed in at 435,000 tonnes in January of last year.

Of last month's exports, 680,000 tonnes was wheat, or 60% of total grain exports, where the country had exported 1.53 million tonnes of wheat, or 63% of overall exports, this past December. January barley exports amounted to 35,000 tonnes, or 3%, versus 137,000 tonnes the month before, or 6%, and corn exports to 408,000 tonnes, or 36%, versus 682,000 tonnes, or 28%.

The Agriculture Ministry projects that Russia can export 20 million tonnes of grain this agricultural year.
