Actively bidding construction projects in major-metro regions in US Southwest in Q4 2013 up 1.8% year-over-year; total contract values in surveyed areas top out at US$1.4B, full-year value totaled more than US$6.8B: BidClerk

CHICAGO , February 4, 2014 (press release) – Private Projects Decreased (-7.60%) Year-Over-Year, While Public Projects Increased 7.57%, BidClerk Construction Index™ Finds

For major metro regions in the Southwest U.S., 4th quarter 2013 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year increase of 1.75% for new actively bidding construction projects. Total contract values in the Southwest U.S. regions surveyed topped out at $1.4 billion in the 4th quarter of 2013. Overall, in 2013 BidClerk reported on more than 3,500 actively bidding opportunities in the region, totaling over $6.8 billion for 2013. Nationwide, the BCI reported on $407.1 billion of bidding construction projects in 2013. This number includes both public and private work and represents the aggregate value of actively bidding commercial construction contract opportunities available in BidClerk's database in the calendar year 2013.

For the city of Phoenix, 4th quarter 2013 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-2.09%) for new actively bidding construction projects. Private projects decreased (-3.88%) in the 4th quarter in a year-over-year comparison, and public projects decreased (-0.63%) during the same span.

A notable project that bid in the 4th quarter 2013 in Phoenix is the Alta Scottsdale, a new multi-residential development. (BidClerk project number 2128284.) It is being built at an estimated cost of $60 million. The developer is Wood Partners (Scottsdale, AZ) and the architect is Womack + Hampton (Dallas, TX).

For the city of Las Vegas, 4th quarter 2013 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year increase of 9.46% for new actively bidding construction projects. Private projects increased 13.79% in the 4th quarter in a year-over-year comparison, and public projects increased 6.67% during the same span.

A notable project in Las Vegas is the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North Retail Expansion. (BidClerk project number 2115359.) It is being built as an estimated cost of $15 million. The construction manager on the job is Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. (Las Vegas, NV) and the architect is Hennon Group Architects (Mooresville, NC).

For the city of Albuquerque, 4th quarter 2013 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-2.15%) for new actively bidding construction projects, whose contract value totals $800 million.

One prominent project actively bidding in Albuquerque is the Los Lunas High School - Phase II. (BidClerk project number 2402737.) It is being built at an estimated cost of $24 million. The construction manager is McCarthy Building Companies (Albuquerque, NM) and the architect is Greer Stafford/SJCF Architecture Inc. (Albuquerque, NM).

The major-metro regions surveyed for this BCI report in the Southwest U.S. include Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale, AZ; Prescott, AZ; Tucson, AZ; Yuma, AZ; Las Vegas-Paradise, NV; Reno-Sparks, NV; Albuquerque, NM; and Santa Fe, NM.
