Held at the Hilton Resort & Spa located within sight of the dolphins at SeaWorld, this event promises to provide an opportunity for both MSR lumber producers and customers to learn from some of the industry's most knowledgeable experts about where the machine-rated lumber industry is currently, and where it is headed in the near future.

This year's topics were chosen by the membership, and promise to offer a wealth of information for every aspect of an operation, from management and sales to production and quality control. Here are the tentatively proposed session topics, along with subjects each topic will include:

  • What did a mill look like 15 years ago versus today?
  • The state of today's wood fiber supply
  • Managing within the current market environment
  • Future growth potential for the MSR industry

SBCA’s LCC Summit

The MSRLPC Workshop will be hosted in conjunction with SBCA’s Lumber in Components Council (LCC), an organization whose primary purpose is to foster open and effective communication between lumber producers and structural building component producers. Topics that will be discussed at this year’s LCC Lumber Summit include:
  • How does a component manufacturer capture the value of engineering?
  • Capturing higher value for engineering means greater value for MSR-MEL lumber because reliability becomes even more important.
  • Greater reliability translates to lower production labor costs (culling lumber, repairs, etc.) and allows for more efficient lumber utilization (taking lumber out of the component). In other words, it positively effects the two largest costs of component manufacturing.
  • What is the long-term effect of lumber supply constraints? When does steel and other materials become a competitive replacement?
  • MSR 101: Presentation on the basics of MSR products, how it is made, how it is used, and how it is graded out from all the other grades available in the market.

Following the summit, there will be a tour of California TrusFrame’s nearby manufacturing plant, which utilizes MSR to produce some revolutionary structural products.
