(Industry Intelligence Inc.)
– Finland’s Metsä Fibre Oy today announced that it is increasing its Feb. 1 northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) list price for Europe.
It said its new price is US$930/tonne CIF Metsä Fibre’s frequently used European ports of destination.
The company did not state its previous price, but it was among several producers that had announced a Nov. 1 price of $920/tonne, up $20/tonne from their previous announcement, which was not fully implemented as of the end of December.
Metsä Fibre’s announcement for Feb. 1 follows that of Mercer International Inc. and West Fraser Timber Co. For December, Canfor Pulp had announced a $940/tonne price, which was not realized, and it has not rescinded this announcement.
The annual capacity of Metsä Fibre’s four mills, all in Finland, is 2.410 million tonnes, according to the company website. This includes 520,000 tonnes of hardwood and softwood pulps at Äänekoski, 670,000 tonnes of softwood pulp at Joutseno, 590,000 tonnes of softwood and hardwood pulp at Kemi, and 630,000 tonnes of softwood pulp at Rauma.
