Russian chemicals companies increased production of mineral fertilizers 2.7% in 2013 compared with 2012 to 18.3 million tonnes, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said in a statement.
The production of nitrogen-based fertilizers was up 2% at 8.2 million tonnes and that of potash fertilizers 5.4% at 7 million tonnes. Output of phosphate fertilizers was down 1.1%, however, at 3.1 million tonnes.
The companies produced 14.4 million tonnes of ammonia in 2013, up 4.7%. Sulfuric acid production fell 6.8% to 10.3 million tonnes, and caustic soda - 4.9% to 1.041 million tonnes.
Fertilizer output grew 12.2% in December 2013 compared with December 2012 to 1.7 million tonnes. This included 800,000 tonnes of nitrogen fertilizers, up 1%; 300,000 tonnes of phosphate fertilizers, down 7.9%; and 700,000 tonnes of potash fertilizers, up 42.4%.
