CHICAGO , January 17, 2014 (press release) – Average Contract Value Increased 30.45% in 2013 over 2012 According to BidClerk’s Comprehensive Market Survey

BidClerk – the widely recognized leader in providing construction project data and marketing tools to manufacturers, contractors, and distributors – announced that the BidClerk Construction Index (BCI) has completed its analysis of actively bidding contracts containing concrete in 2013. In the top 25 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), the BCI found that 20 of 25 MSAs saw increased average contract values in 2013 over 2012 figures. BidClerk reports that the 25 largest MSAs in the United States actively bid $125.3 billion of construction contract opportunities in 2013. The data was generated by a comprehensive survey of BidClerk’s actively bidding commercial construction database and represents opportunities for construction professionals nationwide.

According to the BCI, the combined 25 MSAs (full list below) reveal a 2013 year-over-year increase of over 30.45% in the average value of a construction contract that includes a concrete component. The United States’ two largest MSAs, New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, NY-NJ-PA and Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, CA MSA underwent 39.55% and 52.68% increases in average contract value, respectively. Other large MSAs, including Chicago-Joliet-Naperville, IL-IN-WI and Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, MA-NH, experienced impressive double-digit increases in average contract value in 2013. BidClerk tracked similar gains in Baltimore-Towson, MD, Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL and Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro, all of which saw at least 50% increases in average contract value in 2013.

Only five of the 25 MSAs showed year-over-year decreases in average contract values, including Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale, AZ (-6.7%), Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO (-23.07%), Houston-Sugarland-Baytown, TX (-27.52%).
